The Club

This page is dedicated to branches of Women in Politics. Currently, we are a club at Winston Churchill High School, in Montgomery County, Maryland. Gunjan Singh was the founder and first president of the club from 2018-2019.

So far, the club has hosted a myriad of influential speakers for members to learn from such as state delegates, chief of staffs, and local community leaders. Members have also had the honor of taking a VIP trip to the Capitol where they had a meet and greet with Representative Stephanie Murphy of Florida.

Every year, our club grows immensely, and we have an amazing group of students apply to become officers for the Women in Politics Club. Hey!! I’m Elizabeth, and I’m a political junkie who’s especially interested in gender equality, diversity in tech, mental health, equitable education, and cyberlaw. It’s been so fun to serve as a WiP officer and see the community grow for the past 3+ years. In my free time, I like to listen to music, code, run, and organize community events. Please say hi if you see me at school! ✌🥰
Vice President: Kayla Song (she/her) kayla
Hey! I’m Kayla, a senior at Churchill High School and vice president of the Women In Politics Club. I’ve attended an Georgetown University International Relations Academy in 2019, been a Democracy Summer Fellow for Jamie Raskin in 2020, took a course on Criminology at UMD in the summer of 2021, and worked as an intern for both WA Law Group in Rockville and the Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project in DC. I am a strong proponent of criminal justice reform, especially in breaking down racial discrimination and listening to the struggles of minority communities. In my free time, I like to write poetry, sing, and read. I hope to be a part of the massive change that I know Women in Politics will cultivate!!
Marketing Lead: Sanaz Wyckoff (she/her)
sanaz Hi! My name is Sanaz Wyckoff and I am a politically active teen who advocates for gender equality as well as the end to period poverty. In my free time, I play field hockey, hang out with my friends and volunteer. Some of the volunteering I have done includes phonebanking on behalf of Delegate Lily Qi with the WiP team to register residents to vote, as well as running a successful menstrual product and bra drive. I am looking forward to being the marketing lead in the WiP team and can’t wait to see how our club grows as the year progresses!
Treasurer: Yucheng Shao (she/her)
yuchengHi! I’m Yucheng and I’m interested in debate, computer science, and advocating for gender equality. Some issues I care about include diversity in technology and minority representation in politics. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and following current events. I’m so excited to be a part of Women in Politics this year!
Co-Secretary: Hailee Mehta (she/her)
hailee Hi! I’m Hailee, and I am one of the WiP co-secretaries! I’m interested in advocating for equal rights and environmental justice. This is my second year in the WiP club and my first year as an officer! In my free time, I like to bake and read. I’m super excited to watch the WiP community grow and for us to learn more!

kanzaHi! I’m Kanza Ihsan, a co-secretary of WiP! I have a great interest in gender equality, fighting climate change, and working to shrink the wage gap. I also love the English language and literature, and on Friday nights I take the pleasure in teaching English to students in Indonesia. I can usually be found reading, baking bread, or hanging out with my friends 🙂 WiP is an amazing club, and I’m so happy to be a part of it!
Logistics Team: Camila Shiva (she/her)
camila-1 Hi! My name is Camila Shiva and I’m highly interested in business, management, increasing accessibility to education, working towards equality, and spreading financial literacy. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the guitar, reading, and playing tennis. I’m looking forward to being a part of the logistics team this year for Women in Politics!
Logistics Team: Noura Habona (she/her)
nouraHi! My name is Noura, and I am a junior in high school who is interested in political advocacy, world issues, and helping others. Some issues I am passionate about are gun control, medical insurance for all, international development, criminal justice reform, and overall figuring out what I can do to make the world a better place for all! In my free time I like to hang out with friends and family, go outside, read books, and watch movies or TV shows. I am really excited to be a part of the WiP team, and I can’t wait to meet you all 🙂
Marketing Team: Chloe Roh (she/her)
chloeHi everyone. My name is Chloe and I’m very interested in health policy and politics. I enjoy learning about daily issues and what I can do to utilize myself. One issue that I’m passionate about is equality as I believe everyone should be treated equally no matter their background or appearance. I hope I can utilize myself to help issues that need to be addressed because I want the next generation to live in a better world than today’s.

In my free time, I like to read, write short stories, and play golf. I’m so excited to be a part of the Women in Politics writing team this year!

miaHi!! I’m a senior at Churchill. I am is the founder and curator of Feminist Grrrl, a blog that shares writing on feminism and broader political topics. I am also a writer for the Body Positive Alliance, an organization dedicated to inclusion and diversity. I’m passionate about intersectional feminism and social justice. In my free time, I love to go thrifting, bake brownies, and watch Netflix!! 💓💗💞

hananHi!! My name is Hanan Ali and I’m a politically involved teen who advocates for gender equality, criminal justice reform, equitable education, and bringing an end to period poverty and stigma. In my spare time, I read, play the viola, and volunteer. I’m very excited to be part of the WIP club this year!

nahlaHey y’all! My name is Nahla and I am a junior at Churchill. I am passionate about many things including racial equality, gender equality (wage gap), education accessibility, international relations, etc. I have done work for political figures like Evan Glass and Lily Qi, so I do my best to be a woman in politics and use the privileges that I have to be a voice for people who don’t have one, especially for women and children in developing countries. In my free time I like being with my friends + family, watching Netflix, and longboarding. I can’t wait to work with you all! :)) We’re looking forward to an amazing school year!

Introducing our 2020-2021 Officers

MaanikaPresident 
Maanika is a senior and President of Women in Politics for the 2020-2021 academic year. She was a student fellow for the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, and has done work canvassing and volunteering at voting stations in the past. This is her second year as a Women in Politics officer and fourth year in the club. She has attended several protests and walk-outs in her high school years and is a passionate social justice advocate. When she is not practicing her activism, she enjoys thrifting and hanging out with her friends.
Vice President
IMG_2504 Elizabeth is a junior and the Vice President for the 2020-2021 school year for the Women in Politics club. She enjoys exploring politics and analyzing current events. She’s especially really passionate about gender equality, diversity in tech (equal pay!), education, mental health, racial justice, criminal justice reform and more. Elizabeth has been invited to testify for a Maryland Bill before. She’s also a pianist and long-distance runner, and she loves to organize events and serve the community.

Phoebe is a senior and the Treasurer for Women in Politics. She has worked on several text bank campaigns for an organization called RepresentUs, a grassroots group that pushes for anti-corruption reforms nationwide, as well as running a RepresentUs chapter here at Churchill. Phoebe is also involved in countywide student government. Moreover, she studied international relations at Georgetown University this summer, and also participated in Running Start’s high school program that trains women for public office.
Secretary
IMG_2513 Kate is a senior and the secretary of the Women in Politics club. Soon she will be able to vote for the politicians of America. Kate is politically active: she participates in committees and polls, and attend protests she strongly believes in. She is proud to be a part of the Women in Politics club and its larger movement both in the US and worldwide.
Marketing Coordinator
IMG_2506 Kayla is a junior and the Marketing Specialist and Public Relations Coordinator for Women in Politics. She loves to study and get involved in politics on all levels. She is a Democracy Summer Fellow and has also attended The International Relations Academy at Georgetown University. She believes it is up to our generation to fight for what is to become of the world and loves to see women in political positions because she feels represented through them.
